Hello Reader, Hello from MissouriAre you enjoying the spring weather where you're at? I am although spring has come fast but then winter was quite mild. I have given a couple canning classes recently, and it's gotten me in the mood to can during this downtime. So I have been busy canning butternut squash that we grew last year, potatoes, chicken, and chicken broth. If you'd like to see a short video where I share what I lay out when I'm preparing to can, it's right here. I always enjoy hearing the birds and watching new plants grow and flower. Speaking of plants, I have been interested, for many years, in identifying plants. It all started with homeschooling our children and has led to us using plants for medicine since 2011. It's funny the different paths God places us on paths that are different than the plans we had for ourselves. Plant IDI just wrote an article about Mayapple. Have you heard of it? Have you ever used it? I would love to hear if you have. As I was taking a break from the garden this afternoon, I decided to go walk around the yard, where the yard meets the woods, and there it was the colony of Mayapples all in bloom. I decided to take some photos and write up an article about it just for you. You can read it here. Don't judge, but included in the article is an old video I did, about 6 years ago, on my other channel where I was showing Mayapple to the viewers. GardenI love seeing all my little garden greens popping up. Our peas, kale, cabbage, broccoli, beets, rutabaga, carrots, bok choy, arugula, and swiss chard are all coming up nicely; well.....except for the ones the chickens eat or scratch up. My carrots that overwintered in the garden will blossom and produce seed for me to collect this summer. Our strawberries are blossoming and producing little green berries. My medicinal plants have all come back, so I am very excited about that. The asparagus has already produced its harvest and will be flowering soon. Here's a little walk through of our spring garden. Hello Reader, It's August already!? I don't know about you, but I cannot believe it is already August! My goodness! July was pretty crazy for us as we only had 3 days with nothing scheduled however it was good but wet. It rained and stormed so much. I guess the spring weather we did not get in April decided to come in July. Because it has been so wet, and we've been so terribly busy, our garden needs to be mowed in a pretty bad way. I hope to get to it tomorrow. We'll see; right now it is...
Hello Reader, Good morning! I do hope you had a wonderful weekend and will be able to enjoy this week. We had quite a bit of rain last week, but it is sunny today. Once I send this message out to you, I plan to go outside and sow some brassica seeds. Speaking of gardening, did you get time to read the 5 Simple Beginner Steps to Planning Your Garden article? If not, be sure to read that if you are new to gardening. Then make sure you read How to Decide Where to Plant Your Crops. I do hope you...
Hello Reader, I do hope this email finds you well. How's the weather where you're at. Feel free to email me back. I don't know about you, but aside from a few bitterly, dangerously cold days and a couple snow falls, we haven't had our usual winter. I have recently begun planning our garden, but I do find myself wondering if we simply won't get our usual winter or wonder if it will be late. That would not be good for obvious reasons. Our chickens are doing well, and our honeybees are still...
